Californication

During our media lesson we watched the music video Californiacation, which was a very high budget production and involved a lot of planning and story boarding.  So following the lesson I had a little attempt at producing some of the story board for the beginning of the song to see just how much detail and planning is used for a music video of that quality, here's my attempt.

Moombahton Mind Map

I chose to look at one specific genre to give me a better idea as to what things a specific genre focuses on, this was to enable me to capture what specific genre I will be producing my video in and what constitutes and makes this genre unique and specific.  It was to practice for what things I need to be aware of within the genre and make sure that I portray the genre to a high and realistic standard.

Music Videos and Genre

As a group we explored different types of genre and sub-genres to investigate how genres are born and evolve. The one genre that most interested me the most was 'Moombathon' as it is a genre I have never come across before yet a song I have listened to before 'Sorry'- Justin Bieber is classified within this genre.  This genre has really intrigued me and as a result I am going to produce a mind map looking at the genre in much more detail.

Textual Analysis

30 second recreation video

I chose to recreate the first 30 seconds of The Magic Gangs song 'How Can I Compete'.  I chose to recreate this video as it was fairly simple to start with but still included a range of challenging camera shots and techniques for me to try and replicate.  Also the first 30 seconds of the song had minimal lip syncing opportunities but still incorporated a few for me to challenge myself and try to sync my video with the lyrics.  Here below is the original music video:
